I recently celebrated my birthday.
I won't go into details about my age but I will state simply that I saw Jimi Hendrix open for the Monkees and we'll just leave it at that.
So, despite the fact that I can wear just about anything that I find in a shop, it doesn't mean that everything that I try on will be flattering.
Finding a current fashion trend - say a white cotton sundress - interpreted in such a way that it doesn't come off as too ingenue can be quite a challenge.
Since fluffy white dresses have never suited me at all (no matter how much my heart has yearned for them!) I had just about given up on finding a pretty white cotton sundress until I walked into - of all places - Talbot's. A cute cotton eyelet sundress hung prominently on the wall opposite the store's entrance.
Now, I'd never actually bought anything at Talbot's. Their classic line has always seemed a bit too conservative for my taste and - well - too "mature". But, I managed to force those prejudices aside and bravely headed for the dressingroom.
Even with all of the weight that I've lost, I'm still kind of tough to fit but this dress was perfect. It skimmed where it should skim, fitted where it should and didn't gape in any of the usual places.
Most importantly, it was unbelievably flattering - lacey and breezy but not fluffy.
So, I'm middle-aged, Episcopalian and now I shop at Talbot's.
Could I be more Classic?
